WHITEWELD
FOUNDATION PRESENTS DIONNE WARWICK IN CONCERT AT AVERY
FISHER HALL, LINCOLN CENTER .
Peabo Bryson to Appear
as Special Guest November 19th
New
York, NY, July 17th, 2006 – Two pop
music and R&B legends will perform on
the same stage in a benefit concert this coming November
19th, 2006, 7:30 PM, at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln
Center, NYC. Hosted by the Whiteweld Foundation as
part of its prestigious Whiteweld Concert Series, the
concert will feature the inimitable Dionne Warwick
singing a selection of her unforgettable hits, along
with popular crooner Peabo Bryson of R&B and Walt
Disney movie soundtrack fame. The concert will be co-sponsored
by 98.7 KISS FM in NYC.
Celebrating 45 years in show
business this year, Dionne Warwick’s signature interpretations have made
their mark on the landscape of pop music through each
decade, earning generations of listeners from virtually
every demographic. Her reputation as a hit maker has
been firmly implanted into American consciousness,
thanks to nearly sixty charted hit songs since ‘Don’t
Make Me Over’ topped the charts in 1962. Warwick
received her first of five Grammy Awards in 1968 for
her classic hit ‘Do You Know The Way to San Jose?’ and
in doing so became the first African-American solo
artist of her generation to win the prestigious award
for Best Contemporary Female Performance. Warwick also
preceded the success of her musical peers by becoming
the first such artist to achieve twelve consecutive
Top 100 hit singles from 1963-1966, including ‘Walk
On By,’ ‘I Say A Little Prayer,’ ‘Close
To You,’ ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart’,
and others.
In 1970, Warwick received her second Grammy
Award for the best-selling album I’ll Never Fall In
Love Again’, and she embarked on her second decade
of hits with Warner Brothers Records. In 1985, Warwick
reunited with producer Burt Bacharach and longtime
friends Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John
to record the smash hit ‘That’s What Friends
Are For.’ The landmark Grammy-winning, chart-topping
single was the first music collaboration which raised
literally millions of dollars for AIDS research and
AMFAR. Throughout the world, Warwick has devoted countless
hours to many philanthropic causes, serving as the
U.S. Ambassador for Health, Global Ambassador for the
United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization,
among several other educational and charitable endeavors.
Warwick recently received the first Support Music Appreciation
Award in Washington, D.C., for her efforts in lobbying
Congress to keep music education in school curriculums.
Warwick will continue to complete her world tour, performing
in every city and on every continent that she has ever
played, again making music history.
Peabo Bryson has
established a career as one of the premier soul crooners
of the last quarter century. Possessing a beautifully
rich, nearly operatic voice, he has survived and prospered
despite the passage of time, changes in popular musical
trends, and occasional periods of mediocre material.
Bryson
was born in South Carolina and began performing at
an early age. While in his early 20s, he was working
with producer Michael Zager’s band (‘Let’s
All Chant’) and recording as a solo artist, while
writing with other artists at Bang/Bullet Records,
such as Paul Davis. His Bullet Records debut, Peabo,
was a moderate success and contained one notable song, ‘Jut
Another Day.’
It was his next album, ‘Reaching For The Sky’ and
its hit ‘Feel The Fire’ that took Peabo
to the top of the male R&B vocalist class. His
follow-up ‘Crosswinds’ solidified that
position, and gave him his biggest hit to date, ‘I’m
So Into You.’ In 1991, Peabo released the single ‘Can
You Stop The Rain’, arguably the best song of
his career, and his first #1 R&B in several years.
It anchored a solid album of the same name, and he
hit the top of the pop charts twice as the lead singer
on themes for two consecutive Disney-animated smashes, ‘Beauty
And The Beast’ (with Celine Dion) and ‘A
Whole New World’ (from Aladdin with Regina Belle).
Several guest vocalist appearances on pop and smooth
jazz albums followed, as did work in theater, and Peabo
enjoys a solid place in the popular, smooth jazz and
urban adult contemporary worlds.
